S-500 Prometey, or S-500 Prometheus, (C-500 Прометей) is a Russian surface-to-air missile/anti-ballistic missile system meant to replace the A-135 missile system currently in use. S-500 Prometheus will also supplement the S-400 air defense system! The S-500 is developed by the Almaz-Antey Air Defence Concern. It is unrivaled by any other similar system in the world, being the first in a new class of space-defense weapons. The S-500 is a new-generation surface-to-air missile system. It is designed for intercepting and destroying intercontinental ballistic missiles, low-orbit satellite as well as hypersonic cruise missiles, aircraft, UAV, helicopters and other aerial threats. S-500 can easily be deployed for air defense against Airborne Early Warning and Control and for jamming aircraft. Order for the first batch of the S-500 has been placed by the Russian Defense Ministry! First batch includes 10 S-500 missile systems. Initially it is intended for the Russian Aerospace Forces, but some other countries also interested as like as the S-400 SAM system.
