what is international date line?
- The International Date Line (IDL) is an imaginary line located in the Pacific Ocean roughly opposite the prime meridian. It serves as the line of demarcation between one calendar day and the next and is where each new day officially begins. When you cross the IDL from west to east, you add one calendar day, while crossing it from east to west means you subtract one calendar day. The IDL is not a straight line but instead follows the 180-degree meridian, zigzagging around various islands and territories in the Pacific to ensure that each day starts at midnight.
What is GMT?
Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) is a time zone that is often used as a reference time for the world. It is based on the mean solar time at the Royal Observatory in Greenwich, London, which was historically used as the prime meridian for longitude and timekeeping. GMT is commonly used in the United Kingdom and other countries in the Western European Time Zone. However, GMT has largely been replaced by Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), which is more precise and takes into account leap seconds. Despite this, the term GMT is still often used colloquially to refer to the time zone that corresponds to UTC+0.
