Independent Senator Jacqui Lambie says she believes many tourism operators will be forced to “close their doors” if they are not provided with financial support “over the next five to six weeks”. “I really reckon that they’re really going to struggle to survive,” she told Sky News Australia. “Some sort of package is going to have to help out these tourism operators, there’s no doubt about that, or they will go under. “They rely heavily, like we do in Tasmania, for international travellers. “God only knows when they’re coming back in and they’re certainly not coming back in until we’re going to have 75 to 80 per cent of us vaccinated to make it safe to even start that process again. “And that’s really, really frightening. “So I would expect unless something is done over the next five to six weeks … those tourism operators, there’s going to be many that are going to close their doors because they can’t keep surviving like this.”
