Today we woke up in a great mood. Another day, another adventure. We celebrated the success of our channel with a trip to the beach. Locals told us that the good beaches start at the coast of Mabini. This is a neighboring municipality to Maco. We are so happy. For the first time since moving to Mako, we were on a real beach. The weather is a little overcast, but it's perfect for us. Boria and Mama won't get burned as much. I chose this spot because there are kayaks to rent. Entrance is free, unlike some of the resorts around here. We rented this picnic table for 300 pesos. We will only be here for a few hours, so we don't need to rent a hut. The view of Samal Island from here is spectacular. We brought charcoal and metal skewers from home. I marinated chicken and squid for our lunch. Mom is taking pictures of herself on the beach. We are glad to have her with us on this beautiful day. I started grilling a kebab. Boria love the way I marinate the meat. We have tried some barbecue here in the Philippines, but they are too sweet their liking. Mom sliced some vegetables for the salad. After the meat was cooked, we started grilling the squids and eggplants. And here is our lunch: grilled chicken, squid, eggplant, salad, green mango and pickled green beans. For the drinks we got soda. Eating on the beach is very nice and relaxing. You can only hear the wind blowing and the rustling of the waves. We raised a toast to happiness, love and health. After lunch, we rented a kayak and I started paddling. I was so excited about the experience that I planned the trip a week in advance. The municipality of Mabini is located in the southern Philippines in the western part of the province of Davao de Oro. It is an agricultural area, growing bananas, coconuts, and abaca. It is also famous for its beautiful beaches. We think Mindanao in general is a very beautiful island. Mabini was formerly known as Cuambog and Dona Alicia, and was later named Mabini, after the Filipino hero Apolinario Mabini. He played a crucial role in the country's struggle for independence from Spanish colonial rule. After a while, Boria switched to oars. So romantic. It reminded us of a scene from the movie "the notebook". Boria also took mom on the kayak. After kayaking, Boria and I just walk around the wooden dock. Sometimes people ask him why most Filipino women go swimming in shorts. For foreigners like him, it's really strange. Most Filipino women are conservative and don't like to show too much exposed body. But that's not the only reason. I told him that many girls are insecure about their body and skin. Some people might throw an indecent look for wearing a bikini on the beach and it makes you feel awkward and even embarrassed. He told me that it's ridiculous. Filipinas are some of the most beautiful girls in the world and our skin is very beautiful. He often told me to wear what I want and what I am comfortable in. People's opinion of our body doesn't matter as long as we’re not doing anything wrong. It's time to go home. We couldn't all fit on the motorcycle, so mom and I went first. A few minutes later, the motorcycle came back for Boria. We ride down a gravel road, through huge banana plantations. We came home tired but happy. Today is truly a great adventure and we are loving every minute of it. We are excited to share with you our journey, our hardships, our failures and our successes.
