A video guide on how to overclock any unlocked Intel 8th Generation Core CPU on the EVGA Z390 DARK. A bit old topic in 2020, but could still be relevant to some users. This exactly the same procedure applies to newer models aswell, just like the Core i9 9900K, 9700K or similar CPU SKUs. If you are using Samsung B-die based DDR4 memory in your system, preferably with the newer A2 PCB that is widely used in modern kits, then you can happily try my 5.2GHz 4300 CL17 daily profile. The memory configuration is good for memory frequencies of 4133–4300+ with those main and subtimings that are set in the profile. If you are UNSURE about your cooling solution, I would suggest you start with a frequency of 4.8 to 4.9GHz with 1.15-1.2v manually set Vcore to be safe in terms of heat. If you are using very good water cooling and your CPU is delidded (if the CPU is an 8th gen without solder) then you can quite safely use Vcore of 1.3v and even more. Generally scaling goes bad after 1.35V and there is little gain after that even with good cooling. -25% is the most accurate Vcore VDroop / Load-Line Calibration option on the Z390 Dark. To determine daily stability you have to run something like Prime95 for a couple of hours. Generally I like to run the test in NON-AVX mode to check the optimal CPU frequency for non-AVX workloads, and then utilize the AVX Negative Offset to drop the CPU frequency by 100-300MHz for any workload that utilizes those instruction sets to maintain stability. So on the video I run 5.2-5.3GHz stable in non-AVX workload and I use an AVX Negative Offset of 2 to drop the CPU to 5.0GHz in AVX based workload. Memory stability you have to use something like HCI Memtest to stress the entire capacity of your memory that is installed and without errors. Open as many executions as needed of that program so that the entire capacity is being stressed.
