Vice President, INONGE WINA says the North-Western province is symbolic in Zambia's independence struggle, as it was there that First President, KENNETH KAUNDA was incarcerated. Ms WINA has explained that it was in Kabompo district where Dr KAUNDA was placed under house arrest, by the colonial masters. The Vice President has also noted that the province will remember the late former Head of State for his contribution to the education sector, under which he introduced free education, as a way of improving people's lives. The Vice President said this in Solwezi, during Dr KAUNDA's funeral service, in the on-going provincial programme, of according the rest of the country chance to pay their last respects to the former President. Meanwhile, Ms WINA has urged people in the North-Western province to remain united and uphold humanitarian values for the nation to develop. And speaking during the same service, Dr KAUNDA's first born son, Colonel PANJI KAUNDA called on traditional and Political leaders not to divide the country through tribal lines. Meanwhile, traditional leaders in North-Western Province have challenged political leaders to emulate the sacrifices that the First Republican President made for the country. Speaking on behalf of other traditional leaders, Chief ISHIMA of Zambezi district said political leaders should not focus on enriching themselves but improving the lives of Zambians.
