I don't think humans lost any capacities. We changed our Sanatan lifestyles to modern lifestyle which gives more importance to material aspect rather than spiritual aspects. Our rishi and munis meticulously framed our sanatan lifestyle and priciples which made them easy to achieve it. According to puranas humans are unconciously moving from satvic lifestyle to tamasic lifestyle which avoids us being spiritual because of planetary positions(Kaliyug).
