It is true that in some families, online access is a problem. There are not enough smartphones for everyone to use. Then there are areas where internet connectivity is limited. There are undoubtedly 2-3 challenges here. In Punjab’s Doaba region, people are prone to listening to the radio. So, we introduced radio classes for students in this region. We advanced summer vacations so that students do not waste their time. We also worked to get into place a TV mechanism. I had a telephonic conversation with Union Minister for Law and Justice Ravi Shankar Prasad and Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank and I told them that since BSNL is a public sector enterprise, it should provide an internet connection to places that need it. In addition, the licenses of TV channels are controlled by the government and it needs to invoke the Disaster Management Act and direct private channels to beam two-three hours of direct education coverage to states. It is true that we can use our own avenues of communication like social media etc, or Doordarshan, but we and the other states need that TV access.
