Stock LS vs stock mid 70s-early 2000s bbc the LS will eat bbcs lunch, as the LS is 30+ years ahead in technology and those years id="hidden2" class="buttons"> of bbc were choked by the first emissions..however, do that same test with the old pre smog bbc such as a 396 / 402, 427, 409, ´70 LS6 454, etc and the bbc may just shit on the LS. Now comparing LS in a truck vs bbc in a truck, the bbc will tow a hell of a lot better. Will a LS pull the same load? Probably, but, it will have to work harder than the bbc while doing it. LS make their tq at about 4000-4500 rpm+..bbc makes theirs off idle and up to about 5,000 rpm but they don´t use 2,500 rpm when moving houses off their foundation lmao. I think it was dumb of GM to put LS´s in trucks as they have to work their ass off (upper 3K rpm +) pulling, hauling heavy loads on level or uphill..its like they never hit the sweet spot where they can catch a break. A bbc will just lug it right on up the hill because of the rpm range where their tq is at is a much more useable range vs a high winding LS. Yes a LS will get better mpg but who gives a shit lol. LS are superior in certain ways, I.E. stock head flow, 6 bolt mains, skirted blocks, etc but that goes back to how they are ahead time wise compared to the old gen 1 & 2. Everyone always makes the comment ¨yeah but LS make much more hp / tq than the old Chevys stock vs stock¨. In some cases that is true I.E: almost any gen 1 / 2 Chevy from ´73ish-2001 at the end of the (non LS) Vortec line..however all sbc / bbc arent created equal just like all LS aren´t created equal. Prior to the emissions tanking the mouse and rat engines´ hp / tq you could get some pretty respectable gen 1 Chevys right out of the gate, such as: big blocks ranging from 380 or 409 hp from a 409CI engine with 409 lb ft of tq, 375 hp from a 396CI engine with 410 lb ft of tq, 435 hp from a L71 427 CI engine with 470 lb ft of tq, 450 hp from a LS6 454CI engine with 500 lb ft of tq, etc. All of those ratings are UNDER 4K rpms. (that list wasn´t EVERY big block Chevy offered at the time, just some.) Now on to small block Chevys of the same time: 1969 350CI making 350 hp / 380 lb ft of tq, L76 327CI at 365 hp / 350 lb ft of tq, DZ 302CI at 290 hp / 290 lb ft of tq, etc. (Like the bbc´s I listed, this is not ALL small blocks chevy offered at the time) Also, compare a simple cosmetic part like a gear drive for a sbc / bbc vs a LS and you´ll shit, Jegs has a gear drive for bbc / sbc for $136 & gear drive for a LS is $800. Rotating assemblies and stuff aren´t too far off between the gen 1 & 2 vs gen 3+ platforms. With all of this said each platform has their pros and cons. Me personally I am diehard GM fanatic & love all their V8s from the power houses of the mid-late 60´s to the gutless tbi efi of the late 80s-mid 90s or the new LS / LT engines and anything in between from their V8s debut in 1955-present . Each platform all have their place. My personal prefrence is a good ol sbc / bbc if racing and EFI for daily drivers (jetting carburetors for major altitude change is a drawback of having a carburetor).I perfer ignition distributors, carburetors, cheap prices of parts, and not having to spend 100s of $ for a ECM tune. These old bbc and sbc can be picked up in running condition for pennies on the dollar thanks to everyone jumping on the LS / LT bandwaggon. Also old gen 1 & 2 are also way cheaper to build..yes if you do it right by buying a LS car or truck and using the drivetrain for your build and part the rest of the vehicle you don´t use out to recoupe some expenses the LS can be just as cost effective or cheaper..but, you have to factor in all the stuff no one ever mentions when talking LS swaps. : motor mounts (which have gotten cheaper), VATS delete just to make it run to begin with, then the tune after you do your cam, intake, etc. (yes, i understand some can tune theirselves to save money but majority of people can´t that I have seen). For what you LS guys spend on a tune or converting torun on a carburetor I can buy a good 4 barrel or 2 or 3. Also check out your local dragstrip the really fast guys run carburetors or mechanical fuel injection..that isn´t implying that anything with mechanical injection or a carburetor is fast it just shows what works, works. Go ahead and make the 4 bolt main small block Chevy jumping coke cans in the rain joke lol its all in good fun! ....وسعت
