Washing Machine Won't Spin? - Top 7 reasons and EASY DIY instructions to get your front load washer or top load washer back to working order. Reason #1: Coupler: The motor coupler connects the motor to the transmission on older direct drive washers. If the coupler has failed, you might hear that motor running but the washer won’t agitate or spin. If it is broken, it may create a noise as the broken coupler pieces grind together. If the coupler is broken, it will need to be replaced. Hit that Subscribe button now and make sure the Notifications are ON. Reason #2: Drive belt: The drive belt connects the drive motor pulley to the drive pulley so the inner tub can agitate and spin. If the drive belt is broken or fallen off, the tub won’t spin. Visually inspect the drive belt; if it’s stretched or damaged, it will need to be replaced. Reason #3: Lid Switch Assembly: The lid switch assembly is a safety device that tells the washer when the lid is closed. If the switch fails, it won’t let the washer go into the wash or spin cycles. Test the part using the instructions from the video to see if this part is working. Reason #4: Door latch assembly: The door latch assembly is a safety device that tells the washer if the door is closed/locked and engages the door lock during the cycles. If it’s damaged, the washer won’t agitate or spin. On some washers, there will be an error code to show that it’s failed. Reason #5: Clutch: The clutch gradually gets the washer tub up to full speed during the wash cycle. If the material wears out, the washer tub won’t spin. If you hear noises coming from the washer and the washer won’t spin, this may be the problem. Reason #6: Motor Control Board: This part controls the speed and direction of the motor. If it’s failed, it won’t be sending power to the washer, so it will not agitate while cleaning your clothes. Reason #7: Tub bearings: Tub bearings allow the drive shaft to rotate as the washer goes through its cycle. If these fail it may create a squealing sound from your washer, and as they continue to fail the sound and possible vibration will get worse.
