The controversial motion, passed by 30 representatives of the student union council, had expressed “deep sadness” at the death of the lone attacker, who stabbed a police constable on duty in Causeway Bay on July 1, before turning the knife on himself. The Security Bureau and the city’s education minister have condemned the resolution, while members of the union’s executive committee have since apologised and stepped down. The police raid came three days after the university severed all ties with the union, accusing student leaders of “serious misconduct”.
