Karma by Khushwant Singh | Indian Short Stories in English | Summary & Analysis | English Literature Many people have heard of Karma, but how well do you understand it? In this short story, we will look at Karma and see how it can impact a person's life. For people in the Western world, Karma is often seen as the principle of ''what goes around, comes around.'' While that's not exactly incorrect, a more appropriate axiom may come from the realm of physics. According to the third law of Sir Isaac Newton, for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. That's Karma. Etymology of the word: The word "Karma" was derived from the Sanskrit word Karman, meaning act, the term Karma carried no ethical significance in its earliest specialized usage. In ancient texts (1000–700 BCE) of the Vedic religion, Karma referred simply to ritual and sacrificial action.
