With the first two books, I felt like there was rarely a dull moment, and I was flying through the books even though each were over 1000 pages long!! With Oathbringer, I'm still stuck in the 1st part, and I learn that some of the plot points go nowhere in this book. I will continue with the series cuz I finally reached a point where things are starting to get really interesting, but it was a chore to read through so far. ....وسعت

@Jazzy115منذ 4 سنوات The Diviners I have a love/hate relationship with lol. After the first book it took me about 6 months to pick up the second book because yeah I couldn’t stand Evie but then I finally picked up the second book and it’s one of my favorite books of all time, it follows two other characters more than Evie and they are my favorite characters in the whole series, the third book is fine too but then. the last book was kind of disappointing for me. So while I’m glad I continued the series just because I got to read “Lair of Dreams” I’m not sure if I’d recommend it.

@wolfgirl535منذ 4 سنوات My manfriend just finished Skyward, its next on my list, and he thought it was lovely. A nice easy read. The most common criticism I see of it is people id="hidden18" class="buttons"> believing the main character behaves in a juvenile way that does not befit her age. I mentioned that to my manfriend as he was reading, and he said he could defiantly see where that argument comes from, but he was able to look past it as the character was untested and had preconceptions about the world that her experience tore down and she matured, at least to him, in a satisfying way. She also does a double salute to a commander that nags her for having a weak solute. And I'm here for that.
I'm sorry about the vitriol you received for not liking Stormlight. I personally don't get a lot of your arguments in your video, and I think you deeply misunderstand some of the characters, but I fucking hate Six of Crows which you seem to enjoy a great deal, so they might just be characters that don't mesh well with you. I am however very sorry about the hate, fans can be scary sometimes, but I understand where they're coming from. See, they've developed a very parasocial bond with those characters, they are deeply special to those people. And I can imagine your video made them feel like their beloved characters were being attacked, and they needed to come to those character's defense. That isn't to say what those people did was right, its not, but I get from a psychological standpoint where those angry people might've been coming from. If it's any consolation, later Stormlight books focus on different characters within the world, so if it's just those specific kinds of characters didn't work for you, later books might do you better with the new characters to explore. I'm particularly fond of Oathbringer, shit gets reeeeeeel SPICY in that one.

I re-visted Sanderson with Stormlight in grad school and while it was a lot more read-able than Mistborn, it completely missed the mark for me. It felt like 'fantasy-lite' which is an odd thing to say for someone who is heralded as the King of epic fantasy these days but I compare it a lot to Malice in its writing style. It seemed super elementary, boringly basic, and the characters fell flat all across the board. It's a lot more inventive than Malice with its world building but otherwise I felt basically 'meh' about both. You're not missing anything with not reading The Mortal Instruments. I've read it. @Tadicuslegion78منذ 2 سنوات Controversial but: A Song of Ice and Fire. With the Winds of Winter nowhere to be seen, no clue if ever it'll get published, and the taint of Game id="hidden37" class="buttons"> of Thrones ending in the radioactive Dumpster fire caused to any rewatchability in the show or re-readability of the books for me. Martin took too long. There's only so long you can promise something is coming before I go, just say you lost the plot of your book and have no interest in finishing it. That's why Dance of Dragons bugged me because it felt like a soft reboot of the story because everything had gotten too big and flabby and dragged out.
As for Sanderson? It's funny, he, Robert Jordan, and again George R.R. Martin all have the problem of overkill of pointless information/descriptions and the repetition of the same phrases over and over and over. I swear all three writers could trim out thousands of pages from their books if they didn't stop to describe every single little thing.
I think that's why I've, for the most part, have moved away from Fantasy because I've gotten burned on too many "mystery box plots" that promise big epic things.and it was incredibly underwhelming what they delivered. And also the problem of, and I say this as someone's who's read the Silmarillion TWICE, they bog down their story with too much world building, too much purple prose, too much firehose exposition where all this stuff is dumped on you and you're still trying to figure out, who's who again?
I guess that's why, in my attempt at making a fantasy series, I've tried to be more like Hemingway or Robert E. Howard or the old pulp writers who kept it to short tight sentences, left a lot unsaid so the reader could think about it, and keep the stories really short and tight because I'd much rather write a really tight 120 pg story than a bloated 1200 page story that drags on.
