2022 Alumni Achievement Awards — Olivier Noel ’18g, ’21g Med

Dr. Noel is a physician resident in the Plastic and Reconstructive surgery residency program at Yale University School of Medicine. He is the founder and CEO of DNAsimple, a startup company that helps accelerate genetic research by connecting DNA donors with research scientists. In 2018, Dr. Noel was the inaugural Louise M. Slaughter National DNA Day Keynote Lecturer at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). In 2017, he was named a “30 Under 30” honoree in science by Forbes magazine, a Top 40 Healthcare Transformer by MM&M Magazine and a Top 10 Most Influential Haitians by MagHaiti Magazine among dozens of additional accolades. Dr. Noel’s media features include the New York Daily News, NPR, ABC, CBS radio, CNBC and other prominent news outlets. Dr. Noel was also featured on ABC’s show Shark Tank where he partnered with billionaire mogul Mark Cuban for his company DNAsimple. Dr. Noel earned his M.D. and Ph.D. at the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine in 2021 as a member of the Medical Scientist Training Program. He completed his Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics in 2018 in the laboratories of Dr Glenn Gerhard and Dr James Broach. His research thesis focused on characterizing the genetics behind the positive health effects in patients following bariatric surgery and developing novel therapies for diabetic patients. Born in Haiti, Dr. Noel moved to Queens, NY after attending St Louis de Gonzague High School. He graduated from Queens College in New York after earning a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry with a concentration in Biochemistry and Honors in the Mathematical and Natural Sciences in 2011.He conducted undergraduate research studies in the laboratory of Dr. Nathalia G Holtzman and was an American Heart Association and National Institute of Health (NIH) fellow. Dr. Noel currently resides in New Haven, Connecticut with his wife Christina and 6-month-old daughter Celine.
