When I first heard this song, it made me think of addiction and dependency. I know that probably wasn’t the intention of the song, but that’s the beautiful thing about music, it touches all of in different ways In this day and age, our addictions are plentiful and manifest themselves in different ways; Some of us are addicted, dependent and or obsessed with something Whether it is an addiction to opiates, street drugs, a theology, social media -trying to appear as though we are perfect and knowing that we aren’t, brings its own kind of pain. Some are addicted to being abused and know no other love but the kind of love that hurts, some are addicted to being someone’s hero and don’t love you when you are strong and heathy, there is an addiction to being perfect and pleasing everyone, some are addicted to cutting to feel something real, some are addicted to hating others because they believe it gives them purpose. And the list goes on The bag in the video represents addiction, dependency and obsessive behavior of any and all kinds, it’s about those who have these addictions and or dependencies who live it day in and day out and wish they can just kick it, but can’t , it’s about those who love them who feel they can’t help their loved ones overcome their challenges and want to give up on them. In the end, it’s up to us to decide that we want or need to change. Whatever your struggle, know that you are not alone, that there is help, that you are worth loving and your are worth fighting for, that admitting the issue and not giving up on yourself is the first acts of self love. Don’t give up on those that need you, know your addictions can be overcome, and it’s okay to surrender your heart and let go and let those who love you, help you.
