I think this video is among my most requested videos and I'm so happy to finally share my American Style Buttercream Recipe! Typically Swiss Meringue Buttercream is my go-to recipe, so I've created this buttercream to be slightly less sweet and smoother than any of the other ABC recipes I've tried. This recipe works great for icing cakes, using the Vivia paper towel method of smoothing, buttercream flowers and works wonderfully with the Russian Piping Tips. INGREDIENTS: 1 1/4 Cups (232g) Hi-Ratio Shortening* 2 1/2 Sticks (280g) Unsalted Butter Softened 3 TBSP (32g) Meringue Powder 1 TBSP (15ml) Vanilla Extract (pure vanilla, clear vanilla or a combo) 2 LB Bag (7 1/2 Cups/907g) of Powdered Sugar 1-3 TBSP (15ml-45ml) Milk *You can use regular shortening, but this recipe is MUCH better with hi-ratio if you can get it. You can use ALL shortening in this recipe by replacing the butter with an equivalent amount of shortening. I would not recommend using all butter, however, as the icing is a bit too soft and tends to turn out a bit grainy.
