I spent two weeks in id="hidden9" class="buttons"> the Bahamas ten years ago on what was one of the earliest electric drive sailboats. It was 44' and only about 10,000#. I recall seeing 12.9 knots under all plain sail in conditions about like those in day 2 of your vid. Loved "sailing" away from anchorages with no sail hoisted and no wind. Loved watching our neighbors in the anchorage scratch their heads!
The boat I was on had a large fixed three blade prop that was great on regen and for motorsailing. In variable winds we set the controller at a level where it produced just enough energy to provide a little drive in the lulls to maintain speed, and produce a little regen in the puffs.
I get the twin engine arrangement. It will sell a lot of boats to modern sailors who never learned to dock properly just like those Beneteau Sense customers. I only see two downsides-- extra cost and vulnerability to drift and lobster pots. I take it that the Salona wasn't meant for Alaska floating
My other comment applies to almost all "modern" sailboats. Do you really want to cross the North Atlantic while being thrown against those knife-edge corners in the galley and head? Especially since "interior desiccator" architects eliminate handholds to generate a cleaner and modern look. I have a large bone spur on one elbow courtesy of a 15' flight across the salon of a big Oyster on a late fall delivery to Bermuda. ....وسعت

The combination of sail and hydrogeneration to recharge the batteries is highly synergistic id="hidden25" class="buttons"> and practical. Certainly for most coastal cruising, it means never needing to burn fossil fuels. It is therefore living in better harmony with nature. All energy comes from the wind, including the energy for the motors. In addition the batteries can be charged from shore power, windmill, sun, generator, etc.
Interesting boat design. Not wild about the finish (too much Ikea effect in the woodwork), but could possibly be specified differently. Like the white upholstery.
Boat seems pretty fast.
Note: battery capacity is always in units of energy, such as kiloWatt-hours, Joules, etc. Therefore a unit of power such as 30 kW as a battery capacity makes no sense. 30kW as battery power is possible, but generally Lithium ion batteries can output much higher power than their rated capacity. Probably they mean 30 kWh. ....وسعت

@clydedettor7080منذ 3 سنوات I had an intense flashback watching the closing scene. In 1976 I was standing on the flight deck of a carrier leaving Split. I remembered the sights and id="hidden29" class="buttons"> smells of that passage almost as if it was yesterday. It was Yugoslavia in those days and Tito was still alive. Split is a beautiful city backed up against the mountains. It had some of the friendliest people I have ever met, the babushka's kept trying to feed me and the old men tried and sometimes got me to sit down and share a "few" bottles of wine. I've sailed around the world twice on big gray metal boats, ok ships. I have never seen a cleaner place, only Singapore comes close. In two years I plan on picking up a new boat, still having discussions with the boys in Les Sables d'Olonne and the boys down in Cape Town. They have both told me that's how backed up they are. I'm going to spend those two years updating my Cat skills. The last Cat I was on was a Hobie Cat in the 70's. Sorry no mono hulls for me anymore, I need my space and luxuries. It may be an electric boat, depending on how batteries and charging systems improve. It takes a lot of power to move a 40-50 ft. Cat if the winds not blowing. I think I've got one more trip around the world left in me. If not I just duck into the Med before I come home. I'm going back to Split. And Kita, I'll try to resist putting a reclining couch in the salon. ....وسعت 1

Second I love that the inside of Uma has so much character, I don’t like all the bright, same particle board or wood on this new sail boat. @greatpixمنذ 3 سنوات I miss sailing. I learned to sail at the Orange Coast College Sailing Center in Newport Beach, CA back in the late 70's. My favorite boat was the Shield id="hidden38" class="buttons"> 30 and I liked the Lido 14 which was made near my high school in Santa Ana, CA. The boat I ended up buying was a new NACRA 5.8 catamaran in '82, I named 'Lil Deuce Sloop' a play on the Beach Boys song. I never sailed against anything that could beat it other than another NACRA 5.8 with a spinnaker, I should have bought one too. I sailed out of Dana Point (hard to get out of since you had to sail straight into the wind up a narrow channel so you tack, tack, tacked every few seconds. Then I moved up to Long Beach, aka Hurricane Alley and when the Santa Ana Winds blew you could leave a rooster tail behind the boat like the ones the high speed racing boats leave. I loved hearing my boat 'sing' while up on one hull. The last time I was on a ship was the Paul Gauguin out of Tahiti. My cabin was at the stern and the first night out we went through the worst storm in over 4 years. I got seasick but I think it was more from the diesel fumes than it was the ship movement. I couldn't drive behind trucks because they'd make me sick. The rest of the trip, especially Moorea made up for it. ....وسعت 1
