In this video, Owen explains how Sean Murphy's 2017 series, Batman: White Knight, brilliantly deconstructs and examines the longstanding mythos of the Caped Crusader, and delivers one of the most thought-provoking comic book stories in recent years. @mcf-up9wl4 years ago I would love to see this adapt into animation. But good animation. The new Red Son movie is cool but the animation is nothing special. A comic with this kind of art should be adapted in a faithful way. 215

@apieceofbitsandpieces3424 years ago I interpret as sort of a “Take That!” at people who think comics (especially Batman.) should be grim and violent as “The Dark Knight Rises” and “The Killing Joke” Love your videos, Owen. keep it up 160

@TotallySearch4 years ago Batman White Knight is what comics need right now. Good story and Good art like the glory days of Batman New 52. The only other comic series I liked ongoing was Immortal Hulk. 139

@porassrivastava82424 years ago Funny thing is that the plot is not that creative it was just too bold to ever be tried by a writer. Flipping the protagonist is the antagonist and the villain had heroic motives is nothing new in comic lines previously tackled by authors but this was so hard to pull of in the bat mythos cause it had 80 years of history I'm in awe of the set the story and after a long while I actually liked characters that I previously didn't as much I liked bullock, harleen, and Barbara as batgirl, I truly love the costume design and liked that jack was realistic. Sean gordan is amazing and I cannot wait for his next work after curse of the white knight. ... 97

@Ale_LSH4 years ago This series is worth getting it just on the art alone, my god is Sean Murphy an incredible artist, I haven't seen an artist fit Batman so perfectly since Capullo. 13

Just a quick note, I'm going to start doing weekly livestreams here on YouTube every Sunday (kinda just like a 1/2 hour hangout chat), just in case anyone is feeling isolated, bored or just fancies talking about whatever for a bit. I'm happy to start doing them this weekend, so let me know if that's something you'd be interested in! ...

@M567dk3 years ago One of the reasons that I find this storyline enjoyable is that it finally sort of cleans up the Harley Quinn situation that DC brought upon themselves. The sequels to the series was also enjoyable as well as it showcased ORIGINAL Harley's part in these stories. ... 28

@modmaker76174 years ago I consider Jack Napier as the real name of the Joker with 'The Killing Joke' having the origin of the main DC Universe.
I loved Joaquin Phoenix's 'Joker' but I consider that film to be an alternative Universe separate from the main DC Universe.
I like 'Batman: White Knight' and I wish DC Animation made an animated film based on it. I will consider that comic to define the two characters in 2010s after the DCEU failed.

@Tokumastu14 years ago It really s one of the finest batman stories out there. To top it off it's second part is also good and follows up on a lot of the established story elements that white knight set up. 7

@daneyal7162last year I think that one of the things that I like so much about the story of White Knight is that, while there are alternate realities in which the roles of villains and heroes are completely reversed (for example, look at earth 3's crime syndicate, as they and this earth's version of Luthor are shown in the movie of "A crisis between two earths"), in the story of White Knight, instead of already making The Joker good and Batman the bad, they instead give more focus to the other, not as focused sides of each one of these characters, while also not changing the fact that Batman was a hero, and Joker was villain. Instead, the story pushes to explore elements of both characters in a way that makes us think "hey, why aren't we talking about THIS aspect of the character more?". This is a very refreshing aspect of Murphy's White Knight universe, and I would like to see more of it in the future 😁. ... 2

@dcmarvelcomicfans94584 years ago Thank you for making this video Owen. this is one of my favorite elseworlds stories and I haven't read many Batman elseworlds stories so this one was a favorite of mine. plus it answer some questions I had everytime Batman and his Crusade on crime he doesn't get charged with any property damages or his vigilantism isn't put into question on how it's affecting the people who live in the city since he constantly puts in Danger with stories like Batman Eternal and no man's land and we are Robin storyline from The New 52 yet nobody says anything about it. ... 7

@GARY84ROCKS4 years ago I like the premise, but I don't like where it goes with the Batman character... in "learning his lesson" Batman loses his essential element of being what the system of law can't be to achieve his fight against injustice. It's not satisfying to see that... its repulsive. The Joker's throughline was pretty solid though. ... 13

@aurahoneydew96074 years ago It's good with it's weakest spot being Harley Quinn (the real one) being written in that response to how classic Harley used to be way where it's just not Harley anymore. Thing about HQ is she's not mature nor intelligent, canonically she blew/banged her teachers to get a degree, she's meant to be the equivalent of Joker in where he's not an agent of choas but a Jerk, a troll but actually pulls of his threats and wants she is an immature impulsive kid in a bombshell body. Would have probably enjoyed the book more if they Did the JOKER thing where they add OCs to fill roles and purpose but keep cores and absolute necessary characters. Just a healthy mix of new and familiar. Just look at Duke. EWW. ... 5

@thesleepykitten12342 years ago is it me or did I noticed something in this image in , when Owen mentions that Joker is going to control the villains of gotham and etc. I noticed the Mad Hatter that Harley is holding. My guess they had a talk with the Mad Hatter to control the villains, interesting he is no where to be found though. Also you mention they use clayface to control the villains you forgot to mention about how they had to do it. They used Mad Hatter's tools to do so, because the Mad Hatter is (I believe) the only one who knows how to control peoples minds ...

@sethleoric25982 years ago It's kind of funny that Joker is genuinely a nice guy when he's not insane lol.
  • @
@jackmonaghan84773 years ago Seeing as how they're set to make a sequel to 'Joker', maybe they should draw from elements of this, especially if they continue the themes of class warfare.
  • @
@Bacbi4 years ago You have to suspend your disbelief considering even if Joker is now sane he is still a mass murderer so people complaining about property damage vs being okay with all the things Joker has done is a bit strange, but for the story they are telling and being set outside continuity, it works and was a really fascinating premise.
I also love the kinda modern take on the gotham by gaslight costume.

@KB-zq9ny2 years ago I like this comic, but if it's adapted, I want Mark Hamill or a reasonable facsimile to do Napier's and Joker's voices like in the Killing Joke, because this is obviously inspired by the animated series. It should have the original voice cast for the characters, imo. It's a nice love letter to the original Batman animated series and even has similar themes. ...

@galactic854 years ago I need to read this! When I first heard about it I thought it would be another generic deconstructionist story explaining why Batman would suck if he was a real person. However it sounds like Murphy managed to tell a really interesting batman story that explores the character more in depth than just repeating the same criticisms of batman that you can find in any YouTube comments section. Thanks for showing me I was wrong! ... 2

@anenemystand55823 years ago I'm still not a huge fan of this comic. It has some interesting ideas but other aspects feel fanficy 5
  • @
@user-ManofStyle14 years ago Calling this story an "Incredible" is really stretching it.
Let's not kid ourselves, it's all about the artwork. Designs are fantastic, coloring is great, visually it is 10 out of 10.
But story is just franchise referential fanfiction about Sean Gordon Murphy self-insert OC. Like most fanfictions, for it's story to work, it goes against established rules of the original, by that destroying internal logic, and makes whole thing nonsensical.
As a dumb fun it's great, but as a serious story it's just laughable.

@Nerf_Jeezlast month I don't like it. It's not that simple - "oh uhh the joker just needs to get his pills lol" - no, the joker is not a mental condition, it's a state of mind and an existential outlook! And the writers had Bruce act way out of character and generally be a total moron for the sake of Jack being the better man..
Not to mention Harley's much simplified and cartoonified situation that results from all of this

@RickReasonnz4 years ago I honestly didn't like it. Everything about it is an amazing reach to conceive, asking us to assume this will work BECAUSE COMICS. @hysterical54084 years ago I honestly just don't like it. I don't like the concept, I don't like the direction they took Batman in, I don't like Joker/Jack's character and I hated how they portrayed Harley. I honestly think the only reason it's liked is because people will generally believe that being unique automatically makes a story good. ... 5

@justinbowers2749last year No. Just no. I HATE Superhero Deconstructions, I always have and always will. I’m sick and tired of Batman being blamed for all of Gotham’s problems when the city was messsed up before he put on the cowl. Also once again the story does the myth that Batman doesn’t do enough as Bruce Wayne when in fact he does JUST AS MUCH AS BRUCE AS HE DOES AS BATMAN, the only cliché that wasn’t added was the other myth that Batman creates his enemies even though if you look at their origins it’s not true. ...
