Activation of fatty acids: Fatty acid oxidation: Part 3: I'm Dr. Vijaya Marakala. In this video, I have explained the activation of fatty acid on the cytoplasm once it is mobilized from the adipose tissue. Fatty acids are activated in the cytoplasm by an important enzyme thiokinase or acyl-CoA synthetase with the help of coenzyme A and ATP to acyl-CoA. This acyl-CoA now can be transported across the outer mitochondrial membrane into intermembranous space. Acyl-CoA is not permeable to the inner mitochondrial membrane and requires a carnitine transport shuttle which I'm going to explain in the next video.
