A Republican official in Maricopa County, Arizona has resigned after audio emerged of the official berating his Republican colleagues for not being all-in on the ballot audit. The official suggested to the colleagues that they were only hesitant because they "barely won" their elections, implying that they feared the audit could overturn those results. The official apologized and resigned this week, but being caught on tape saying something stupid isn't a career-ending move these days, and Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins thinks something bigger is happening. A Maricopa county Republican official announced his resignation after audio was revealed from back in March of this year, where the supervisor by the name of Steve Chucri, told two fellow Republican members of the Maricopa county board, that the reason they didn't support the ballot audit that was going to be coming the following month, the reason they didn't support it was because they both barely won their elections. And after that was made public, uh, Mr. Chucri here decided, okay, listen, that was in poor taste. These, these men obviously legitimately won their elections. Uh, I'm going to resign. That seems odd, right? That seems very odd to me. Saying something stupid or basically getting in an argument, even with members of your own party, is not grounds for resignation or removal from office these days. Yeah. 10 years ago, maybe, maybe. That would have been like, holy crap, you know, this guy's nutso. Get him out of there. We've got tons of nuts in office all over the country. This, this doesn't seem like a, like an offense that would warrant this man's resignation in today's society. I don't buy it. I don't buy it for a second. I do not believe that this individual resigned because he was on tape, basically implying that two of his Republican colleagues may not have legitimately won their elections. Like that's, that's not, that's not a thing. That's not a reason to resign from office. So what is actually happening here? Why did this man, Steve Chucri, actually resign from his position in Maricopa county? Now we don't know. There is no definitive answer to this because he gave his reasoning. He apologized. He, here's what he said in his apology. Uh, the environment is wrought with toxicity and all civility and decorum no longer seem to have a place. And, hey, actually, you're a good example of that, buddy. The fixation with the 2020 election results and aftermath have gotten out of control. Again, you were pushing for the recount. Um, there was no coverup. The election was not stolen. Biden won. So why are you resigning? You pushed the audit, you pushed the audit. And now you're out there saying right about the time that those results are due to the public. Actually we're more than three weeks overdue on when cyber ninjas was supposed to give us those results. But now you're saying, look, hey, it wasn't stolen Biden won, I'm done. I'm out. I'm leaving. I'm, bye. You're embarrassed is what it is. You pushed this bogus fraudulent ballot audit on Maricopa county, along with the Republicans in the Arizona Senate, you are responsible for this. And now that that report is about to drop and prove that everything was false you're getting the hell out of there because you don't want to have to face those voters again. That's what this is about in my opinion. And hopefully Mr. Chucri here is not the last Republican we see resign from the state of Arizona. I want to see every single Republican who pushed this ballot audit resign once these results come out. Now that's not going to happen. That is absolutely not going to happen. We're already seeing ballot audits like this start to take place in other states as well. The damage is done. But when these results finally do come out, if they ever come out again, we're over three weeks past due.
