Donald Trump is furious that The New York Times published his tax return information with the help of his niece, Mary Trump, and he has now filed a $100 million lawsuit against them for doing so. He claims in the suit that the two conspired together to release the returns, which isn't necessarily a crime. The only potential legal issue is how Mary obtained the tax returns, and the potential violation of a non-disclosure agreement from 22 years ago (that the courts have already laughed at.) Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins explains what's happening. Donald Trump threw a massive hissy fit this week and filed a $100 million lawsuit against his niece, Mary Trump, and the New York Times. It was revealed in Mary Trump's 2020 book titled, too much and never enough how my family created the world's most dangerous man, that she was the one who got her hands on some of Donald Trump's tax returns and handed them over to the New York Times who then published them. Now, again, this was all well over a year ago, so we don't have any kind of new information about Trump's tax returns. And to be honest, what did come out at the time really wasn't all that spectacular. It really didn't give us much information about much of anything. But nevertheless it happened. And Donald Trump is still off about that and finally decided, you know what, dang it. I'm going to sue for a hundred million dollars. And you're, you're, you're definitely going to lose, to lose that case. Here's the issue. According to the lawsuit filed by Donald Trump's lawyers, Mary Trump, allegedly, again, this is all according to his lawsuit, conspired with these New York Times reporters to snatch those tax documents off of Mary Trump's lawyers desk, and then turn them over to the New York Times all in this grand scheme to embarrass Donald Trump. Now I think that word is interesting there, embarrass him. This is what his lawyer said. So there must be something embarrassing in Trump's tax returns, right? Obviously there would have to be. You wouldn't use the word embarrass if there wasn't something embarrassing in there. So that kind of opens a whole new can of worms, right? You can read a lot into what people think by reading these legal filings. So clearly there's something this dude doesn't want held. So obviously you have the conspiracy part of it. Conspiracy to steal the documents off your lawyer's desk, like something out of a, you know, film. But there's also another issue and this one actually could work against Mary Trump, maybe. Here it is. When Fred Trump senior, Donald Trump's daddy, Mary Trump's grandfather died, part of his will included a non-disclosure agreement, right? Hey, you can't tell anybody what any of this is. And that's actually where those tax documents came from. So these tax documents are covered by a dead man's non-disclosure order as part of his will from 22 years ago because he died in 1999. I don't know about that, right? In fact, some of the courts that have already looked at these non-disclosure agreements with regard to Fred Trump Sr., have actually said, yeah, um, you really can't bind people to this from beyond the grave. Like your dead. It's been 20 some odd years now. Um, this has expired because you can't expect to limit people for the rest of their lives. That's actually been decided, by the way, in other cases involving non-disclosure agreements as well. You cannot bind someone to secrecy for the entirety of their lives unless of course, we're talking about government state secrets, things like that. Sure, absolutely. There's a reason for those things. But in this particular instance, that non-disclosure agreement from that will from 22 years ago is what's going to come into play. Can this dead man, Fred Trump Sr., limit what other people can say or do from beyond the grave?
