The battle over the debt ceiling is being waged in DC, with Republicans refusing to budge on allowing the government to borrow more money in order to remain solvent. The irony is that Mitch McConnell is accusing the Democrats of playing "Russian Roulette" with the economy by not raising the debt ceiling, but HE is the one not allowing that to even happen. Things continue to get dumber in Washington, D.C., as Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins explains. So weird things have been happening in DC all this week and I say weird only because they're a little difficult for average, you know, news consumers to fully understand. But basically to kind of distill it down to its most basic things here, there's a battle over the debt ceiling. Democrats need the debt ceiling raised so that the government can continue to function and avoid a government shutdown and avoid defaulting on all the bills we have coming due. But Republicans led by Mitch McConnell in the Senate, say, hell no, absolutely not. We're not going to raise the debt ceiling, which is why it was super ironic earlier this week, when Mitch McConnell came out and said this. My advice to this Democratic government, the president, the House and Senate, don't play Russian roulette with our economy. Step up and raise the debt ceiling and cover all that you've been engaged in all year long. But you’re the one that is vowing, according to this business insider article, vowing Senate Republicans won't lend the support needed to pass a measure aimed at averting a federal default, even as he says, he doesn't want the US to do so. It may cause financial meltdown and plunge the nation into another recession if Congress doesn't act in time. And Mitch McConnell's out here scolding Democrats, like, why aren't you raising the debt ceiling? Because you're not letting them do it. You've said you're not even going to let it happen. So what, I mean, we're, we're, we're living in topsy-turvy world. Mitch McConnell is doing the political equivalent of taking the Democrats hand and punching them in the face and saying, stop hitting yourself. They're not hitting themselves. Your hitting them, Mitch. And Mitch knows that. Mitch is not a stupid individual by any stretch of the imagination. Mitch McConnell is actually a very talented politician. Now he sucks as a legislator. He sucks as a human being. But when it comes to strategy, Mitch McConnell is right there with the best of them and that's what he's doing. That's why so many of these outlets reported on what he's saying, but at least business insider here had the good sense to be like, uh, that's not what's happening. Mitch McConnell's accusing the Democrats of tanking the economy as he actively is tanking the economy. It's not that hard to figure out, folks. Mitch McConnell cannot have the Democrats be successful. It doesn't matter that they, the Republicans, raised the debt ceiling three different times in Trump's four years. They're not going to let the Democrats do it because they want the US to default. They want us to get to that government shutdown, which we're also rapidly approaching, even though that's, you know, kind of a separate issue too. We also have all this other legislation. The build back better act. We have the bipartisan infrastructure bill. We have all of these things happening all at once. All of them essentially coming due within the next two or three weeks here, you've got some Democrats not wanting to go along with the infrastructure, not wanting to go with build back better. You've got the Progressive's saying that if they tank the bipartisan infrastructure by taking out vital pieces of it, or if they do not support the build back better act, we will not support the infrastructure. So folks, when I say that weird been happening in DC all week.
